Beneath The Surface was curated by Newport International Airspace and received funding from The Project Space. It featured a gallery space, shop and was the venue for evening performances.
The regeneration of Newport city centre was the inspiration behind the series of mixed media paintings.
At the time, I was looking at artists Sandra Blow (1925-2006), Richard Diebenkorn (1922-1993) and Japanese philosophy Kintsugi (the mending of broken ceramics with a mixture of gold powder).
Sketches of the building construction were initially made from the safety and high vantage point of The Chartist Tower and the photography archive of developers Bowmer & Kirkland.
Each painting is 30cm * 30cm, Oil, Paper and Gold Leaf on Canvas.
